An exhibition of newly commissioned contemporary art exploring the idea of discarded objects being given a new meaning by the artist.
The Milgi Gallery is inviting artists to creatively respond to the junk dumped on Northcote Lane to raise awareness of the enormity of rubbish as a modern condition. The works will explore the idea of reinventing and adapting abandoned objects that would otherwise be considered superfluous.
By giving the found objects new significance as works of art and displaying them in the location they were found the viewers interrelationship between commodity and place is challenged. A space that would otherwise be considered a dumping ground will be transformed into a gallery that displays the very objects that make Northcote Lane infamously undesirable.
