PRESS RELEASE:

MATT JACKSON does the  MI GALLERY @ milgi

ARTIST RESIDENCE  / SITE SPECIFIC / POSITIVE / CREATIVE

…Mi-Gallery launching its first Site Specific artist in residency project at Milgi…

3rd August 2008

Running for 2 months.

Our first artist residency is upon us and let me tell you that we have a great project in store. The gallery corridor at Milgi, usually jam packed with photographic work will be transformed into an artist studio space. Yes that’s right, Matt Jackson a Cardiff based illustrator is going to let rip on an 8 x 16 canvas structure that will be erected right there, on show while you mingle at Milgi.

In conjunction with the ongoing EAT FOR ART foundation, set up to support local artists of all dimension to do what they like doing best, this artist in residency goes on step further and lets you peeps see how the magic is created.

Spotted first selling his stuff at the Northcote Lane Boutique Market, held at Milgi’s on the first Sunday of every month, Matt Jackson creates caricature doodles bursting with the colours of the rainbow that take on a “Graff” like style of execution. Going by the name of “I eat childrens faces” the work can be described as being “…dark absurdist, popart.”  which kind of sums up its rather appealing nature.

Matt sees his work as:

“A collection of cartoons and art work [ha, ha] that comes from somewhere dark inside my brain, the part which I think is slowly decomposing and is almost sure to leave me senile and dribbling on day.”

Interesting to say the least! And what’s even more interesting is we’ll all beable to see how Matt copes with the eyes of all us lot, watching as we scoff and drink ourselves into a comfortable state. Perhaps only then will it make sense?
