CHLOE MATHARU
Chloe Matharu is a captivating nineteen year old singer from Edinburgh whose cultural roots lie in Scotland, Wales and India. She’s heavily influenced by the likes of Pentangle and Fairport from the 1960’s Folk Revival and grew up surrounded by the wealth of traditional music in Scotland and Wales. While at school Chloe won a place in the Radio 2 Cambridge Folk Festival with it’s Youth Band. She’ll be releasing her debut album, Next Market Day, later this year.
‘ delivers a wonderful variety of songs with confidence and sincerity … a voice with the purity of a folk classic’ - Bella Hardy.
“There’s a … refreshingly unaffected, intimate and pastoral quality to Chloe Matharu’s singing” Karine Polwart
“Sounds like she’s channelling Pentangle from 1967” Ken Josenhans Ann Arbor USA
www.myspacemusic/chloematharu

EVENING CHORUS
New young folk-inflected band with an alternative homespun feel who delight in the power of combined voices and interweaving instruments – think Fleet Foxes unplugged. They took the Yurt by storm when they played in the Autumn, have a growing reputation in Cardiff & Bristol (and Chicago!) and recently won their way through to the last phase of the Green Man Festival Poll deciding who opens the Festival!
“they harmonize in a soulful way to emphasize the sorrow of heartbreak. Banjo, violin and guitar build, then fall down to a quiet strum, only to build again, … incredible potential” www.loveshackbaby.net music blog, Chicago, Illinois.
www.myspace.com/caldugganmusic

INTERAILIA
The Interalia are a multi-generational quartet of musicians who specialise in jigs, reels and hornpipes, heartbreaking original songs and magical covers of old folk songs. “We pick the tunes and songs that speak deepest to us, and deliver them in a raw and evocative style that stirs up the soul of anyone who listens”.

WHAT IS MELTDOWN?
For 22 years Cardiff’s legendary Meltdown Club has been creating space for musicians and performers to experiment, collaborate and entertain. Founded in 1986 Meltdown has been responsible for over 1000 gigs (including roadshows to London and Scotland), a compilation album (3 stars in ‘Q’!), and early gigs by now legendary performers including Catatonia’s first ever gig, Sian Evans of Kosheen, jazz guitarist Dylan Fowler, comedian Rob Brydon, Massive Attack collaborator Nicolette, Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club, Wales Folk Diva Julie Murphy, No Fit State Circus and a clutch of Super Furries. Recent acts to use Meltdown as a space to innovate, experiment and entertain include the Threatmantics, Spencer McGarry, Cate le Bon, Stepping Out Theatre Company, Optimus Prime, Lily Green, Mr & Mrs Clark, Stacey Blythe, Beatbox Fozzy, Bec&Beth (Hot Puppies), Wonderbrass, Applefish and Plant Duw. And all this from a club that is organised by a bunch of unpaid enthusiasts, runs almost wholly on self-generated money, and melts down barriers between styles of music and performance with reckless abandon!!! Yay for us!!!!

‘I think its fantastic what you do … I love the meltdown nights’
Alan Thompson, the Evening Show, Radio Wales
“Meltdown has been the capital’s most consistent and inflluential music club over the last two decades”
Gavin Allen South Wales Echo

More details:

5 GO SWING - 5 Go Swing draw their inspiration from the beauty and passion of Gypsy Jazz capturing the essence of a musical tradition that both exhilarates and moves. Formed in Cardiff in 2004, they have quickly left their mark on the Welsh jazz scene, thrilling audiences with an irresistible mix of beautiful melodies combined with compelling dynamic and rhythmic variety. Playing with a zest and intensity that expresses the passion and romance of the Gypsy tradition, their repertoire moves between popular swing jazz standards, haunting ballads, traditional Gypsy dances, exhilarating up-tempo swing, swaying bossa, bolero and waltz. As with the 8 strong Heavy Quartet, 5 Go Swing share the mysterious innumeracy that afflicts the local jazz scene – there’s only 4 of them!
“enjoyable music played with an infectious enthusiasm … dazzling the audience” thejazzmann.com

KADESHA - 17 year old Valleys girl Kadesha Drija – who’s Meltdown debut blew us away back in December - has already played more gigs than many artists twice her age. She is currently working with Songwriter & Producer Len Arran, (3 platinum albums with Skin and Skunk Anansie in the late 90’s). Kadeshas powerful songs and achingly beautiful voice are matched by the humour, fun and honesty of her between song banter. Endearing and inspiring!

“This 17 year old is a prodigious talent” Adam Walton Radio Wales
“Kadesha, you’re a woman in a mans world, a lover in a world of hate, a singer in a world that’s out of tune” Benjamin Zephaniah
www.myspace.com/kadeshadrija

RACHEL TAYLOR BEALES sings Kate McGarrigle A special one off tribute set following the death of the superb Canadian singer-songwriter. Songs that are heart-lifting, heart-breaking, beautiful and always true.

ANGIE BELCHER - Angie Belcher is stand-up poet currently touring with her show “Not a Natural girl” – Her highly confessional and frank take on modern singledom. An accomplished Comedy actor and writer she has performed on stage, screen and radio with her energetic style.
